Fathima Fazla Ashraff
B.Sc (hon), MMFT
Associate Therapist
Hello! My name is Fathima Fazla and I am thrilled to introduce myself as an Associate Therapist at Thrive Counselling. I hold a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Psychology from the Coventry University, UK and a Clinical Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Winnipeg.
Over the years of my professional experience in the field, I have had the honor of collaborating with individuals, families, and couples to work through various challenges, such as trauma, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, parenting children with neurodivergence and developmental disabilities, addiction, grief, and relationship struggles. I have also gained valuable skills in areas such as immigration/settlement related stressors, gender-based violence, and family violence through my experience in community mental health.
My international experience of working with diverse populations has given me the skills to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client. Additionally, I have collaborated with international researchers as a research assistant, which has inspired me to use evidence-based approaches in my work and be up to date with the latest developments.
Over the years, I have witnessed the power of human connection, and I believe that attachment is at the root of all human relationships, including the ones we have with our partners, parents, friends, boss and co-workers. For this reason, in individual therapy I am passionate about helping individuals struggling with their relationships, as I understand the impact that these struggles can have on one’s emotional well-being. Therefore my approach is grounded in the attachment framework, and I integrate concepts and techniques from various models such as the somatic approach, emotionally focused therapy, the Gottman method, CBT, narrative therapy, and Acceptance Commitment Therapy.
At the heart of my approach are empathy, compassion, and cultural sensitivity. I aim to create a secure and non-judgmental space where clients can explore their inner selves and how they interact with others, and help them in moving towards healing, personal growth and building fulfilling relationships.
In my free time, you can find me exploring new places, digging into a good book, learning about other cultures, history, and new languages. I also enjoy experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen and engaging in expressive arts like singing and painting. Most importantly, I cherish quality time with my loved ones.
Thank you for considering me as a potential therapist, and I look forward to collaborating with you in reaching your personal and relational goals.
