About Hanyu Teng
Hanyu Teng (she/her)
BA, MACP (Hons)
Associate Therapist
Hi there! My name is Hanyu, and I am a therapist at Thrive Counselling. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology. I hold certifications as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (C.C.C.) through CCPA and as a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) through BCACC. I am passionate about supporting individuals, couples, and families through life’s challenges, helping you find pathways to growth and resilience. I strive to create a safe, welcoming space where you feel valued, understood, and supported.
I believe healing begins when we are truly seen, heard, and accepted. Together, we’ll explore your challenges, uncover your strengths, and create a path that feels authentic and meaningful. I have worked with teens, adults, and families on concerns including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and relationship dynamics. To support your unique needs, I draw on a range of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Compassion-Focused Therapy, all within a trauma-informed and person-centred framework. Connection and trust are at the heart of healing. My role is to provide a space where you feel supported and empowered to explore, grow, and move forward with confidence.
Growing up in a multicultural environment and being fluent in both English and Mandarin, I’ve gained a deep appreciation for how culture and language shape our experiences. This insight fuels my passion for working with Mandarin-speaking communities, where cultural or linguistic barriers can make accessing support more challenging. My goal is to bridge those gaps, ensuring you feel respected, heard, and empowered throughout our work together.
Outside of the therapy room, I find inspiration and grounding in nature, whether through tending to my indoor garden or enjoying quiet moments in a park. This connection to the natural world reminds me of the resilience and care required to thrive — values I bring into my work with you.
Life is unpredictable and often filled with twists and turns. I see myself as a companion on your journey — supporting you through both the challenges and triumphs. Whether you are seeking help with a specific issue or pursuing personal growth, I am here to provide compassionate guidance and a safe space to explore, heal, and grow.
