Walk & Talk Therapy

Walk & Talk Therapy

Often being outside and moving our bodies can be integral in decreasing anxiety and reframing issues into new perspectives. This is a great alternative to an office setting, especially for new parents who want to keep their baby with them, people who enjoy movement, and for anyone who feels more comfortable talking side-by-side rather than face-to-face (or through secure video). If you are interested in Walk & Talk therapy, you will need to meet with your therapist at least once in-person or by secure video so they can assess if this therapy model is a good fit for you and provide additional forms for completion.

Duration: 60 minutes
Pricing: $75 – $95 per and hour (taxes included)
Offered by: Sandra, Erinne, and Nicole

Sessions take place around the walking trails at Assiniboine Park. A specific meeting place will be arranged when we set up your appointment.
Session length will be 60 minutes. You can talk to your therapist if you would prefer a longer session.
Yes, but inclement weather, daylight hours, and events taking place in the park may limit our availability.
The goal with walk & talk therapy is to set a pace that is easy and comfortable for you regardless of physical fitness or ability.
We can’t switch your session setting once we arrive at the park, but we can change your future sessions to something more suitable for your needs, like a traditional office setting or secure video. Alternating sessions is also an option.
Something to consider before Walk & Talk therapy is that you will be doing your therapy session in public. People may overhear you and your therapist talking, or someone may see you together. You might run into someone you know, or someone that your therapist knows who doesn’t realize you are in a session. If you choose therapy outside the office, you and your therapist will decide how to handle these situations if they occur.
Of course, providing your physician consents. We want outdoor therapy available for everyone. We can choose locations that you can navigate in your wheelchair or sit on a bench if you’re injured or not up to walking for the entire hour.
Yes. Our priority is always providing the best possible therapy experience for you. We welcome you to bring your baby and will adjust your therapy session to allow time for you to attend to your baby’s needs.
Likely. You and your therapist can discuss the walking route and your therapist’s comfort level with dogs to determine if this will work. Service animals are always permitted.
This therapy model could be useful and incorporated into family or couples therapy after discussion with your therapist. It is important to note that much of relational work is done intentionally to have the clients making eye contact and facing each other.
