Heather Derco
BA, MMFT
Associate Therapist
My name is Heather Derco, and I am an Associate Therapist at Thrive Counselling. I believe that everyone is capable of change and that we are all able to overcome difficulties in a manner that will enhance our quality of life. My focus is from a strength-based, trauma-informed, systemic perspective. My counselling approach is person-centred, where I acknowledge that you are the expert in your own life. My role as a therapist is to walk alongside you, helping you uncover your own strengths and reconnect with your authentic self. I provide a safe space of compassion and connection where clients can develop a better awareness of themselves and process what is happening or what has happened in their lives. I strive to help clients experience an increased sense of wellness, empowerment, and clarity.
My credentials include:
- Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology – University of Manitoba
- Master of Marriage and Family Therapy – University of Winnipeg
- Certified Shame-Informed Treatment Specialist (CSTS): Eating Disorders, Addictive Eating, Body Shame and More – Online training through Evergreen Certifications
- Member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT)
I work with individual adults, adolescents, and couples. My approach is a blend of therapy models including EFT, Attachment, Narrative, and Solution Focused with a foundation of self-compassion and mindfulness.
Away from work I enjoy hiking, yoga, travel, reading, walking my dogs and spending time with my adult children.
