About Heather

Heather Derco
BA, MMFT Student
Student Therapist
Hi, my name is Heather, and I am a student therapist at Thrive Counselling. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Manitoba and I am currently a student in the clinical Master of Marriage and Family Therapy at The University of Winnipeg. I am also a member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT).
I work with adult individuals, adolescents, children and families. My focus is from a strengths-based, trauma-informed, systemic perspective. My approach is a blend of therapy models including EFT, Attachment, Narrative and Solution Focused with a foundation of self-compassion and mindfulness.
I believe that everyone is capable of change and that we are all able to overcome difficulties in a manner that will enhance our quality of life. I provide a safe space of compassion and connection where clients can develop a better awareness of themselves and process what is happening or what has happened in their lives. I strive to help clients experience an increased sense of wellness, empowerment and clarity.
Away from work, I enjoy hiking, hot yoga, travel, reading, taking my dogs to the dog park and spending time with my young-adult children
