Client Care Team
Administrative Assistant
Hi, my name is Liz. I’m an Administrative Assistant with the Client Care Team here at Thrive Counselling Kildonan Crossing. I enjoy meeting new people from all walks of life and aim to make each person who contacts our office feel welcome and cared for.
My varied education and experiences lend themselves well to my current position. I grew up in Norway, and my family still lives there. In my late teens, I worked in housekeeping onboard a ship, travelling throughout Europe, Africa, and America. I moved to Canada to attend the University of Saskatchewan in my early twenties. I met my husband in Saskatoon, and we have been married for 43 years now. We have four adult children, their spouses, four grandchildren, two bonus grandchildren, a cat named Charlie, a dog named April, and several grand pets. We have all lived in Winnipeg since 1999. I visit my sisters and their families in Norway as often as possible.
I spent many years in retail: coordinating fashion displays, managing a duty-free shop, cashiering in grocery and department stores, and working in customer service. After graduating with a Diploma in Practical Counselling, I worked with at-risk children in the school system (by far my most favourite vocation). I also cleaned homes and ran a daycare for a couple of years until I went back to college to get my Administrative Assistant degree. Since then, I’ve worked for an investment company, a newspaper, and a corporation that builds buses. The last seven years before attempting to retire were spent taking injury calls for MPI, which was both challenging and rewarding.
I love cooking, baking, travelling, reading, and writing. After one year of retirement, I became restless and realized I wasn’t quite ready to withdraw from the workforce. I’m so thankful for this opportunity here at Thrive. I think every experience I’ve had in my career has led me to this place, “for such a time as this.” Working with the team here is a rewarding way to remain involved in the community and keep my mind sharp. I’m glad to be of service.
