Sandra Scott
BA, MMFT, RMFT, CCC
Therapist & Clinic Director

Hi, I’m Sandra Scott. I am thrilled to be the leader of this amazing team at Thrive Counselling in Winnipeg. I feel honoured to walk beside people on their therapy journey, and I view myself as the guide as I believe you are the expert in your life. I also recognize the time and energy it takes to reach out. Therefore, I work hard to provide an open, accepting, encouraging, safe, welcoming space to support you in your healing process.

My credentials include:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology – University of Manitoba
  • Clinical Master degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MMFT) – University of Winnipeg
  • Registered Marriage and Family Therapist (RMFT); Member of the Canadian Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (CAMFT)Certified professional member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA), with CCC (Canadian Certified Counsellor) designation.

My practice is sex positive. I am an ally to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, sex workers and ENM (ethical non-monogamy).

I work with individuals, couples and families to help them be the best versions of themselves. My clinical focus is from a systemic perspective that is person-centered, inclusive, affirming and non-judgmental. I use an experiential approach with a foundation of self- compassion and mindfulness. Exploring your capacity is something I encourage as well as digging deep to find and connect to your authentic self. My approach is a blend of therapy models including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment, Solution Focused, Narrative, Internal Family Systems (IFS), CBT and Somatic integration.

I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy through the British Columbia School of Professional Psychology (BCSPP). This therapy model is highly effective and efficient in moving through single event trauma, PTSD, childhood trauma, phobias, eating disorders and addictions as well as other issues.

I have extensive experience with group disability insurance and the energy and support it requires for a return to work to be successful and sustainable. I also enjoy designing and facilitating training workshops. Much of my clinical experience has been collaborating with clients to work through anxiety, depression, self-esteem, childhood trauma, shame, setting boundaries, addiction-related challenges, sexuality, working with the inner critic, family of origin issues, conflict resolution as well as grief and loss.

Change is difficult, and sometimes change is thrust upon us, and we need to figure out how to cope when we have few resources. The systemic approach that I use will help provide another perspective. I will guide you through the storm with support, strategies and tools and help you sort out how you can thrive again.

When I am not at work, I have an amazing family, including two cats that I enjoy spending time with. To nourish my soul, I exercise every morning. I believe in daily self-care and movement, so I practice yoga, meditation and intentionally take time each day for myself. Dancing (ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop and jazz) is one of my passions, something that I believe is vital in our lives. I also love baking, it’s a very peaceful activity for me.

Your experience at Thrive is very important to me. My goal is for all of our clients to find healing and personal growth, and to create strong healthy relationships with the important people in their lives. If you’re here, you’re probably going through a tough time. We are here to support you. If you choose to come to Thrive to heal, please know that you can contact us anytime with questions or feedback through our contact form here.
