Sandra Scott
BA, MMFT, RMFT, CCC
I work with individuals, couples and families to help them be the best version of themselves. My focus is from a client-centered, strengths-based, inclusive, affirming and non-judgmental systemic perspective. I use an experiential approach with a foundation of self-compassion and mindfulness. I also encourage digging deep to find your authentic self. My approach is a blend of therapy models including Emotionally Focused Therapy, Attachment, Solution Focused, Narrative, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and some CBT.
I am also trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy through the British Columbia School of Professional Psychology (BCSPP). This therapy model is highly effective and efficient in moving through single event trauma, PTSD, childhood trauma, phobias, eating disorders and addictions as well as other issues.
After working in the group insurance industry for many years, I have a deep understanding of group disability and the energy and focus it takes for a return to work to be successful and sustainable. I also had the opportunity to work for AFM as a family therapist providing support to youth and families working through addictions issues in Winnipeg as well as rural communities in Manitoba. Much of my experience has been collaborating with clients to work through anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, shame, addiction-related challenges, sexuality, working with the inner critic, relationship difficulties, understanding effective communication, family of origin issues as well as grief and loss.
I feel honoured to guide people on their therapy journey. I also recognize the time and energy it takes to reach out and book an initial appointment. Therefore, I work hard to provide an accepting, encouraging, safe, welcoming space to support you in your healing process.
Change is difficult, and sometimes change is thrust upon us, and we need to figure out how to cope and where to turn. The systemic approach that I use will help provide another perspective so this doesn’t feel so overwhelming. I have been there too, it’s hard sometimes just to eat or sleep. I also know that you are the expert in your life, I will guide you through the storm and help you sort out how you can thrive again.
I find it very rewarding to co-design and co-facilitate group workshops with Jacinth Glasgow for delivery (at this time) online. Our workshops include: Understanding Anxiety, Challenges of Working Remotely, Resilience and Work Life Balance, Conflict Management and Resolution, Navigating Returning to Work at the Office.
Away from work, I enjoy spending time with my family. My life is full, so to nourish my soul, I exercise every morning. I also believe in daily self-care, so I practice yoga, meditation and taking time each day for myself. Dancing (ballet, tap, modern, hip-hop and jazz) is one of my passions, something that I believe is vital in our lives, so I really love my dance classes. I also enjoy trying to learn new languages, travelling, baking and experimenting with new recipes, gardening and board games.
Your experience at Thrive is very important to me. My goal is for all of our clients to find healing and personal growth, and to create strong relationships with the important people in their lives. If you’re here, you’re probably going through a tough time. We are here to support you. If you choose to come to Thrive to heal, please know that you can contact us anytime with questions or feedback via email at thrivecounsellingwpg@outlook.com.
