Hello! My name is Sheri (she/her) I am a student therapist with Thrive Counselling who is working toward my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Winnipeg. I am also a student member of the Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. A life long learner and yoga practitioner, I have a Theatre Arts degree, BA and an MBA. I am trained as a meditation teacher and a self-compassion practice teacher with a certificate from the Three Jewels Center in New York City.
As a therapist, my approach is holistic and client-led, finding what each individual connects with and working together within that framework. I believe that movement and creativity are integral parts of the therapeutic process. With experience in meditation, mindfulness and visualization practices, part of my role as a therapist is to help others develop their self-awareness and to help guide each individual to uncover their own truths and insights. My practice also involves Narrative Therapy, IFS, SFT and CBT. Finally, the experiential aspect of the Satir model connects to my core belief system where. Two quotes from Satir resonate with me: “As a therapist, I am a companion. I try to help people tune into their own wisdom” and “We need to see ourselves as basic miracles”.
I am dedicated to helping everybody without discrimination. I am a compassionate, open-minded and creative person, with a refreshing sense of humor. My goal is to create an environment in which each individual feels safe, heard and seen with a pure regard and non-judgemental view. I place special emphasis on bringing forth the inherent inner wisdom and true nature of each person.
In my spare time I love being a mother. I enjoy music, theatre, opera, art and travelling. I am a curious individual who is always looking for opportunities to learn more and to seek out new experiences. I have lived in New York, Spain and France for over 15 years and am bilingual in Spanish and French. I find great joy and peace when expressing myself through my art.
